A few weeks ago I mentioned that we were goingt to a concert on Treasure Island in San Francisco. I hadn't talked about it yet because the fun times we had during the day were overshadowed by the events of that evening (that's a story for another time). Anyway...this was like no other concert I've ever been to. For one thing we were given free parking in the AT&T lot and transported over to the island on zero emissions shuttle buses. All of the plates, knives, forks and spoons along with the cups for the Heineken beer (the only beer they served at the festival) were compostable. They had different booths set up to talk to you about recycling, sustainable living...small things we could do do minimize out environmental footprint here on earth. Overall some really good things were going on, along with some really awesome music.Totallly exciting to see environmentally friendly events popping up:)
Now, about the bands:
The first band we saw were Au Revoir Simone...this was one of the main bands Nate wanted to see. Three girls from Brooklyn. LOVED them. Have them on repeat on my IPod at this point. Especially Sad Song...loving that one right now. And they are so cute...they kept telling the audience how excited they were to be here playing for them.
The second band that caught my attention was Two Gallants. I had never heard of them before but they quickly had me hooked on their music. Two skinny boys from Pacific Heights...if you click on the link go to their audio and take a listen. Really cool stuff.
One of thebands that I was really looking forward to seeing was Clap Your Hands Say Yeah but unfortunately I didn't care much for their performance. I have listened to their first album more times than I like to admit to and can't help but smile each and every time I hear one of their songs. It's too bad that their show wasn't better. I can't even put my finger on what it was but maybe...just a lackluster performance. I guess I was just expecting more... ?
One of the more pleasant suprises was the band Built To Spill. This is one of Nate's favorite bands but I can't say that I've ever really been that drawn to them. I know he's played them for me but they just didn't stick with me I guess. It's my belief that sometimes you really have to see a band live to really get them though. After their set I was blown away. In fact I was reading on another blog a review of their show and in it they said that "they won over another generation of Built To Spill fans" and I couldn't agree more. I loved them! I can't believe I didn't realize how amazing they were before...
My favorite band of the day was Spoon though. Amazing set. I have been a fan for years. They were the band I was looking forward to seeing the most. For all the years that Nate's been a fan this was his first chance to see them in concert. I'm already wondering when I can see them again:)
We skipped Modest Mouse (been there, done that-although apparently the lead singer was not such an a** at this concert) mostly because of the lateness of the day. We both had to work early the next day and getting home earlier won out over hangin out for another 90 minutes in San Francisco. In hindsight maybe we should have stayed...then maybe we wouldn't have had all the trouble later. I guess we missed an awesome show which is too bad because we both really like Modest Mouse. Maybe next time;) When we haven't already been at the venue for 8 hours...
I leave you with one of my favorite pictures...my husband and his ear plugs.
thanks for letting me ramble...
